Linux turns 20 this year

Major milestones in Linux over the past 20 yearsIt’s hard to believe but Linux turns 20 this year.

Back in August 25, 1991, University of Helsinki student Linus Torvalds sent out his famous message:

I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones.

From that simple introduction, we now have an operating system that is in use throughout the world today. It runs on desktops, servers, supercomputers, and mobile phones. And best of all, it’s (still) free.

Linux: you’ve come a long way, baby.

First CS Division Fiesta in Honor of Our Lady of Angels

We will have our first annual fiesta of our Division patron, Our Lady of Angels, on Aug 1 and 2, 2011.

The actual day of feast is August 2 but we will celebrate it on August 1 owing to the class schedules. We will sponsor a Mass on August 2, however, to commemorate the actual feast day.

Our schedule of activities:

August 1, 2011
4:00 PM – Novena at the Center Lounge
4:15 PM – Games
4:45 PM – Snacks
5:00 PM – End of Program

Sheila requests that we then proceed to the 40 Days of Love Activity afterwards.

August 2, 2011
Mass sponsorship at 12nn. We need at least 7 offerers.

Please come all. This is our own Division Fiesta ever. We pray and wish that this will be a successful and fun-filled fiesta for all of us!
