Over the weekend we activated the Forums and Groups functionality on this web site. With these we can have focused discussions on division activities, ideas for education, and trends in the IT industry.
For now we want to limit interaction to our community of CS division faculty, alumni, selected students, and industry friends, i.e., people we actually know. That’s why we’ve made registration to the site by invitation-only.
Any member of the site can send invitation to friends. Read on to see how.
First, you have to be logged on the site. On the top left corner of the screen, you’ll see the username and password fields.
After you log in, you’ll see a thin menu bar appear on top of the screen. This bar holds your shortcuts to various functionalities available to you.
Click on the Dashboard menu item (not the items that appear below it). This will bring you to the WordPress dashboard.
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen. There you will see the Invite Friends box. Type in the name, email address, and a short message to the friend you want to invite.
As I said, we want to limit interaction for now to a small community, so we do hope you’re judicious as to who you invite. Once you’re registered, you can create groups and post in the forums.
